The
mission of ABS TCM nutrition laboratory is to develop and disseminate
scientific information needed for understanding the nutrient value
of feeds and rations formulation for higher animal production.
Why
analyze feed?
Forage
crops vary in moisture, nitrogen, fiber, energy and mineral content.
Since production is determined by the quality of feeds, it is important
to evaluate feeds to determine the nutrients available to animals.
The general areas of concern to farmers are that the dairy concentrates
available in the market vary considerably in nutrient composition.
ABS TCM focuses on monitoring closely the quality of feeds farmers
feed their animals so as to advise accordingly. This is to ensure
that farmers reap optimum benefits commensurate to their inputs.
Proximate Analyses
The analyses include; dry matter determination, fiber fractionation
(crude fiber, acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber), fat/oil
determination, nitrogen /crude protein and metabolizable energy determined
by computation.
Advisory
Service
Following analysis ABS TCM advises farmers on custom-made dairy feeds
to reduce the cost of production of milk. In addition other nutrition
and advisory services are feed conservation and forage quality and
forage market information. |
